Weeky Updates and Faire in the Grove

I know its been a while but I've been working on some exciting stuff for you guys. I also have some exciting news for you all as well as some weekly updates from the last few weeks!

First up! You remember that goal I set a while ago? To learn chainmail? Well I am on my way! I've just about mastered the basic European 4-in-1! (As you can tell this is very exciting for me >.<)

So far I've done a necklace:

This was done out of red and silver links and is a choker. This went to a friend of mine and there will be some pictures of her in it up here soonish!











Purple 4-in-1 Bracelet:

This is still available for purchase. This was done out of purple and silver aluminium links. The weave is both durable and beautiful and would be a bold and fun addition to any outfit.

Bracelet is 8"












Mobius Earrings:

These are a mix of European 4-in-1 and a mobius at the bottom (that they are named for). These are available for purchase and are a fun flirty touch for any outfit, casual or dressy.

Earrings are about 3" long and can be ordered in varying lengths.













Twisted Leaf Earrings and Bracelet:

These are made of a continued mobius pattern and look wicked! Prefect for making a statement with bold power and looking kick-ass while doing it! Great for night life or day wear!

Bracelet is 7" earrings are 3 1/2"













Red and Black Glass Drop Earrings:

These are a classy mix of glass and metal to create a look fit for any social occasion! Work or fun time these will accent any outfit perfectly.
Earrings are 2" long











Friendship Bracelets:

Stones made into a pair of bracelets to symbolize the length and longevity of the best of friendships. Made in a flirty pink and black these similar bracelets will show that you and your best friend were carved from the same stone. As they say, birds of a feather flock together!

Each bracelet is 7" long and is strung on 7 strand jewelry wire with high quality toggle clasps.

Above you can see some of the cool new stuff the Fire Inspired team got for our table displays! Thsi little detail dove tails very nicely into my next announcement! Fire Inspired will be a merchant at the demo event Faire in the Grove! Weekly Workings This Week:

Concept sketch with measurements

This week I've been mainly working on updating the blog organizationally. Keep an eye out for changes that will be starting to appear. ^^ Still working on some lampworking this week and on some kumihimo weaving.

I've decided to take on a couple new projects this last week. The first of which is for a belt of kumihimo weaving. The general idea for the project is to weave 5 strands of round kumihimo, each 1 solid color, into one flat weave to create a belt. This one is going to be in earth tones. Greens and browns. This one is for myself but when it's done and I have an estimate on how long these things will take me to make >.< there will be an option to commission on for yourself.
For those SCAdians out there, wouldn't it just complete the look your going for on your garb to have a custom woven belt or girdle in your choice of colors?

The other project I'm going to be working on in the next few weeks is learning how to do some basic chain mail. I have a concept for a necklace that I really want to do not too long from now that's gonna require some serious chain mailing! Wish me luck!

Also started work on the second try for the trim for a friend of mine.  A flat weave kumihimo out of green, black, and white.

Updates, Weekly Workings

Hello all! Sorry its been a bit since I've posted. Been trying to adjust to a new term of school and such. But never fear I have been a busy little worker-artisian!

I have finished up an example of what I  can do with the wire kumihimo weave:

This is a choker and earrings that are made out of the wire Kumihimo weave I posted a few weeks ago. I find that it makes some lovely jewelry. This piece I made as a personal piece with a pendant given to me years ago. I can make these using a pendant provided as a focal point or a custom lampwork bead.












I finished up a commission for Liz Holmes:

This is one of the Celtic Star sets that you've been seeing on here. This is fully customized colors and stars. This particular one is a 20 inch long black and green necklace with matching earrings.

Finished up 2 sets of loop earrings that will be under our "For Sale" tab at the top of the page.

This pair is in a green and purple spiral weave. I did another in a green and black spiral weave. Both are for sale currently one of a kind earrings that anyone would want to own! They're available for custom order in your own favorite colors as well! Just send us an email to specify what colors you want.

I've also been doing some bead work. Been on the torch quite a bit the last week. No pics for here just yet but I'm loving the results.There will be some sneak peak pictures on the facebook page at Fire Inspired Creations!

Christmas and Weekly Workings

The results of Christmas are in!

Made for my Uncle out of the great wire kumihimo:

A lanyard made out of the wire kumihimo. Many of you will remember this from my post a couple weeks back. A similar work would cost about $25


For my Aunt, Cousin, and 2 friends:

 

 Chain and lampwork bead necklaces. I borrowed the idea from a friend of mine and the necklaces are now for sale on here ^^

These cost for 3 beads  $23.50
or for 5 beads $33.50

The last two weeks or so I've been working on new lampwork beads:

 For the SCA folks out there these were given to the Princesses of An Tir at 12th Night.

 All of these beads are examples of what I can do, Most of these are what I would consider regular size beads.

 Above is another example of a chain necklace. This one was done as a gift. Similar are available for purchase.

Last night I completed about 5 more, they will be going towards a full necklace.

This Week's Workings and Pricing

I've been working on Christmas stuff this week for the most part.

I finished up my first flat Kumihimo weave. It ended up a bit shorter than it was supposed to be. >.< It ended up being about 4 feet long instead of the 6 feet I wanted. I did discover that the finished product is about 2/3 the size of the original string being used :D

Now I know!

This is the finished spool of ~4 feet.

I used black, white and blue.

 This was supposed to be part of some trim that was to go to a friend of mine (yes Jess that means you >.<) but as it's not long enough this will be going elsewhere.

Pricing on trim (flat weave made with string) is $18.54 a yard. Keep in mind these are each hand made and unique creations. These can be weaved with anywhere from 1 to 5 different colors.


I'm working on some other Kumihimo for Christmas too.
I am doing an eight part metal round weave out of wire. It's looking really great and I'm gonna be making some jewelry out of it as well as a Christmas present for someone. Can't say what or who just yet!

Earrings out of this are going to be about $15 a pair. I will be making some in the next few days. I'll post pictures of them as soon as they're done. ^^
A choker necklace out of the metal, about 14-15 inches long, would cost about $20.
The round metal weave can be made out of anywhere from 1 to 8 different colors.

The finished necklace that I posted earlier, the one with star chain-mail on it, I realized that I hadn't posted a price so...

Two in One and Weekly Workings

Well I've had some requests for things to be posted as well as my follow up on the kumihimo weaving. Here are some examples of my series work as well as the pricing for prints. Here also is the second how to kumihimo video. This one a collaboration with a wonderful lady who taught me how to weave kumihimo the same night we filmed the video.

Trappings Photography Series:

My series is about the various things that trap people in society and the perceptions of ourselves and other people. I will post a selection of the most popular pieces of the series. These was designed as a part of a 12 part series following the stereotypes that trap us.

Each print is 8x10 high quality photograph and is $19.93

Mangled Faith:

This is one of the most popular pieces from the series. It's about the trappings of religion.  A statement on people's reaction to other faiths, it's perfect for an office or church to inspire common sense and a sense of cooperation and coexistence.

Book Wormy:

One of my favorites of the series. This one is about how other people's categories and stereo-types can trap us. This one is perfect for book-worms with more under the surface. This would be wonderful in a home office or reading room to set the mood just right.

Poison Perception:

This is, by far, the most popular piece of them all. This is about dealing with other people's perceptions of oneself and the trapping nature of other people's opinions. This would make a powerful statement in any home or office setting serving to remind people that the only limits are those we put on ourselves.

Weekly Workings:

This week I've been working on kumihimo weaving for the most part. I finished up the first round weave I was doing.

The chain mail on this was a gift from my brother. This is a choker necklace.

And several other  completed projects too.

2 more round weaves, a green and purple and a blue and red.

At the moment I am working on a trade commission for a friend of mine (yes Jess this is your trim ;3) 6 feet of trim in her colors, white, black, and blue, and 6 feet in her lord's colors, white, black, and green. It will be a flat braid. Pics will be up when it's finished.

How to: Kumihimo Weaving

This is something that I've been learning how to do and I have some videos for you guys so you can learn too!

Kumihimo is a Japanese cord weaving technique. It was used by samurai in the middle ages. It can produce round or flat cord. In the 18th century it became popular with weavers and other textile artists.

The foam disks we are using are, of course, modern >.<

This is, obviously, me learning how to Kumihimo Braid! This is one braid. These will be for sale soon! Hope you guys like the video there will be more up soon!

Weekly Workings

Well I figure I ought to take a page from a friend's book and post with what I'm working on right now.

I've recently started working on making a snood. My mom found an old one she'd made some 18 years ago in my closet and it inspired me to get crocheting!

For those of you who don't know what a snood is, it's like a hair net or a bun cover that's a whole lot better looking. It's made of crocheted yarn or string that's been woven in a circular pattern.

They were worn a lot in the middle ages and the Renaissance. It's a cool little fashion piece and looks wonderful with any outfit. It can be dressed up and down and is one of my personal favorite hair pieces.They can be any color or combination of colors. Often in the Renaissance wealthy women would weave pearls into the crochet to display their wealth just that little bit better.

Pictured is an example of a snood. Not my own work as of yet, but a fit example none the less. They can be any color or combination of colors.

Pricing on this one's a bit uncertain but estimates will come when I know how long it will take me to make each snood.
